The Berlin School of Economics celebrated its annual Welcome Event for its new cohorts of doctoral students and research associates as well as new Faculty members at the School of Business and Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

The event on October 9, 2024 was opened with welcoming remarks by the President of Humboldt­-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal, and the President of European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Prof. Dr. Eduard Mühle, who introduced European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) as a new institutional member of the Berlin School of Economics.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote lecture by the renowned Caltech professor Colin F. Camerer on the topic “The neuroeconomics of habit”. Colin F. Camerer is a behavioral economist focusing on questions of visual salience and habits. With the goal of improving the economic analysis of decisions, games, and markets, he uses methods from psychology and neuroscience, including eye-tracking, lesion patients, EEG, fMRI, wearable sensors, machine learning and animal behavior.

Among the more than 100 guests were professorial members of the Berlin School of Economics from the various universities and research institutions, doctoral students and research associates (post-docs and junior professors) from the Berlin School of Economics and further members of the School of Business and Economics of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Also present were about 50 scientists who took part in the Lab² Kick-off meeting – Incubator for Collaborative and Transparent Economic Sciences. This workshop presented new and promising research on replicability and meta-science by economists. It took place on October 8 and 9, 2024 at the WZB Social Science Center and the School of Business and Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
