The Berlin School of Economics welcomes the support of the Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation for the Berlin PhD Conference in Economics. Beginning in 2026, the Foundation supports the annual conference and the Dr. Hans Riegel Best Paper Award, recognizing up to five outstanding PhD researchers.
Held annually since 2025, the Berlin PhD Conference in Economics provides an international platform for doctoral researchers to present their work, receive detailed feedback, and exchange ideas with peers and leading scholars from around the world. Organized by PhD researchers from the Berlin School of Economics and affiliated institutions, the conference brings together early-career researchers across two parallel workshops in Applied Microeconomics and Microeconomic Theory and Behavioral Economics.
The second edition of the conference took place from July 6 to 8, 2026, at WZB Berlin Social Science Center and Hertie School. The three-day program featured seminar presentations, poster sessions, and keynote lectures by Esmée Zwiers (University of Amsterdam), Simon Jäger (Princeton University), Jeanne Hagenbach (CNRS and Sciences Po Paris), and Botond Köszegi (University of Bonn and Central European University). Through its discussion format, which pairs presentations by international PhD researchers with discussants from the Berlin School of Economics, the conference fosters rigorous academic exchange and provides participants with valuable feedback on their research.
The support of the Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation reflects a shared commitment to promoting outstanding early-career research and strengthening international academic exchange in economics. The Berlin School of Economics is grateful for this partnership and looks forward to continuing the conference together in the years ahead.
