Description:
This seminar course is devoted to PhD students whose research interests lie in the field of applied microeconomics, in particular, in current empirical economic research and policy evaluation. We offer PhD students a forum to present and discuss their own research project and receive detailed feedback in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
The goal of this seminar is to help students to kick-start their (first) research project and to accompany them constructively in their PhD journey. Presentation of early stage research projects or research ideas is encouraged.
In the first meetings, the lecturers will provide some input on questions such as “How to present?” or “How to write?”, we will jointly reflect our experiences and discuss these and other questions related to presenting, discussing and writing in economics in the group. During the following meetings, we will devote one session (1.5 hours) to each student’s research project. After the student’s presentation, we will provide extensive feedback on the project, including recommendations on how to proceed with the research agenda towards their dissertation. Each student is expected to deliver a short discussion of another student’s work. Active participation in all meetings is mandatory.
