Current discussions about the new “Twitter blue” features show that the consequences of Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter are still uncertain. Many researchers are therefore looking for an alternative or complementary account on the social network Mastodon. In the INSIGHTS skills training "Science communicates via Mastodon" I would like to inform you in two hours about the features of Mastodon. The training will be held on 24.04.2023 from 10 am - 12 pm in room E425 at WZB.

The training is intended for beginners who want to take their first steps on the social network Mastodon.

• How is Mastodon embedded in the Fediverse?
• What is the difference between Twitter and Mastodon?
• Which instances are suitable for my account? How can I move to another instance if necessary?
• How do I build an account?
• What do I have to consider when posting (characters, images, content warning, emojis)?
• Communication with other instances
• Interaction (Twitter-Mastodon, crossposting, etc.)
• Practical tips
