Why is hate speech and discrimination a problem online? How can I speak out against it and in what situations is it worth doing so? How can I protect myself?

In the interactive INSIGHTS Skills Training "How to deal with online discrimination and hate speech?" on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 9am-3pm, we will explore together with Karoline Wodara what hate speech is, how we can act against it and protect ourselves. In particular, we will put an emphasis on practising counter strategies, legal aspects and mental self-care. There will be a lot of emphasis on practice and incorporating individual experiences. The training serves as a follow-up to the “BSE INSIGHTS Talk and Panel Discussion on Sexual Harassment and Power Abuse in Academia and the Economics Profession”.

Karoline Wodara has been working as a freelance trainer and workshop leader since 2019. She works nationwide for the Amadeu Antonio Foundation on the topic of "Countering hate online".

The training is open for all post-docs and PhD candidates, you receive 1 ECTS for participating.

The training takes place at WZB Berlin Science Center, Reichpietschufer 50, 10785 Berlin in Room B002/3. To register for the training, please send a short email with your name, institution and program to maximilian.peukert@wzb.eu by November 8.
